What do you do to pay your bills? Salesmen for Allied Building Products
How did you learn about CrossFit and how did you end up in our awesome Box? I learned about CrossFit through social media and watching the CrossFit games on TV. Then when Hyper CrossFit opened up right next to where I work I knew I had to try it out. Needless to say I’ve been hooked ever since.
What do you like most about being a FIT member (Hyper CrossFit Athlete)? The coaches and other athletes are one of my favorite things about Hyper CrossFit. Everyone supports and motivates each other especially when your having one of your off days. When walking into FIT, it doesn’t just feel like another boring day at the gym working out by yourself. I always feel pumped and excited knowing that I’m going be throwing down with a bunch of other athletes that are there to achieve the same thing.
What is your proudest moment/biggest accomplishment since you started? My biggest accomplishment is the weight loss journey I started back in January of 2013. I’ve since lost 125 pounds! I started out at 370 pounds with a 50″ waist size and I now weigh 245 pounds with a 36″ waist size. I couldn’t imagine being where I’m at without CrossFit.
What are you still working on to achieve? The sky’s the limit! There is always something to work on or better yourself at, especially when it comes to physical fitness. While maintaining the weight I’ve already lost I would still like to loss another 15 pounds and reach my goal of 230 pounds. I’m also focused on getting down certain movements like T2B, double unders, and rope climbs all while at the same time building up my strength and endurance.
Tell us one random fact about yourself that has nothing to do with Crossfit. My favorite thing to do is go skiing! There is no place I’d rather be than on a ski mountain.
What is your favorite WOD or benchmark? THE FILTHY 50! This was one of my first Saturday WODs. When I first saw it, I wanted to turn around and hop right in my car and go home. It felt like the list of exercises went on and on. After completing this wod a couple of times I have learned to love it and will take it on any day of the week.
If you created a WOD and named it after yourself, what would it be? Definitely the WOD Father! It would have to involve rowing, snatching, and wall balls, my three favorite movements in CrossFit.
What advice would you offer to someone interested, but intimidated to try Crossfit? My advice would be to get in there and give it a shot. You never know until you try. Looking back a year from now when I first started CrossFit I could have never imagined myself being able to do half the stuff I can do know. I can honestly say I have developed a true love for the sport and I think anyone who is motivated enough to try it will too.
Any additional comments you would like to share? I’m honored to be nominated as athlete of the month. I am so grateful for the relationships I’ve built and all the help I’ve had over the past year to achieve my goals. Thank you so much for making working out fun!
