What do you do to pay your bills? Retired Verizon Telecommunications Representative
How did you learn about CrossFit and how did you end up in our awesome Box? I learned about CrossFit while receiving Physical Therapy from Lawrence back in 2012. During my therapy, he asked me if I would be interested in trying CrossFit out. I had several concerns, because I’m visually impaired and when I asked if he thought I could do it, Lawrence said, let’s try it! I said okay and joined in January 2013. I have my physical therapist, Lawrence and Coach Rex to thank for introducing me to CrossFit and putting me in the “Box!”
What do you like most about being a FIT member (Hyper CrossFit Athlete)? What I like most about being a CrossFit member is the intensity and the variety of the workouts as well as the support that I receive from the coaches and athletes. I like the fact that I’m getting stronger, losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle.
What is your proudest moment/biggest accomplishment since you started? My proudest moment was when I was able to step up on to a 24-inch box without support during a WOD. I was always stepping up on 45 inch plates, until I was “told” one day by Coach Yolanda, “You’re going to step up on a box today, chick!” So I did it! When Coach Laurie was told about it and took over the 11:00 am class, I’ve been stepping up on boxes ever since. Coach Laurie will never pull weights for me to step up on again and I’m loving it! My most recent accomplishment was when I PR’d my deadlift at 155 lbs. My reaction was, “I DID IT!” My previous PR was 105 lbs less than a month ago.
What are you still working on to achieve? I am still working towards doing box jumps, running and getting my first climb up the rope.
Tell us one random fact about yourself that has nothing to do with Crossfit. I am currently enrolled in a Sculpture class for the visually impaired and I love various forms of art.
What is your favorite WOD or benchmark? My favorite WOD’ are anything Tabata and EMOM and I like “Cindy.”
If you created a WOD and named it after yourself, what would it be? My WOD would be 3 Rounds for Time of: 25 push presses, 20 deadlifts, 15 box jumps, 10 MB Situps, 5 push ups and a 10 calorie Row.
What advice would you offer to someone interested, but intimidated to try Crossfit? My advice for anyone who is interested in CrossFit would be to watch one of our classes once or twice. Do not let what you see intimidate you! Be reassured that at FIT, you have the most knowledgeable coaches who will guide you through every workout. Just do it! Don’t let what you see scare you. Be prepared for new experiences.
Any additional comments you would like to share? If you want to do CrossFit, 11 Cadillac Road in Burlington, NJ is where you want to do it! They have the friendliest and most encouraging members and coaches. I am humbled, honored and surprised to be chosen Athlete of the Month. Thank you!
